ATHENS, W.Va- The Concord University softball team swept visiting Glenville State 8-2 and 4-3 in Mountain East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the CU Softball Complex on Senior Day.
Concord's record improves to 29-19 on the year (18-12 MEC), while Glenville State falls to 14-35 on the year (7-21 MEC).
Game 1: Concord 8 - Glenville State 2
After falling behind in the second inning, Concord used a big third inning to take a 4-1 lead after three.
Junior shortstop
Alayna Furr started things off with a single before junior outfielder
Lauren Lewis belted a triple to center field to open the scoring in the inning. Senior catcher
Alyssa Morris singled down the left field line to score Lewis for the inning's second run. Senior second baseman / outfielder
Kristen Rose added another triple to her league-leading five to score Morris before junior third baseman
Courtney Purtell drove Rose in with a single.
Concord extended its lead in the fourth inning with three more runs. Lewis singled in senior outfielder
Kristi Benvenuto to start the proceedings. Morris produced an RBI groundout before sophomore third baseman
Alycea Watson doubled to left field to score Lewis. Morris added another RBI in the sixth as insurance, doubling home Furr.
Furr finished 3-for-4 in game one, with three runs scored. Morris finished 3-for-4 with three RBI while Lewis was 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBI.

Abby Beatty picked up the eighth win of her career, allowing just four hits and two earned runs.
Game Two: Concord 4 - Glenville State 3
After once again facing an early deficit, CU once again responded late to capture a 4-3 victory in game two.
GSC tallied two runs in the first inning before sophomore designated hitter
Nicole Neri singled to right field to score sophomore third baseman
Alycea Watson and reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Glenville State added a run in the sixth inning to give it a 3-1 lead.
GSC threatened once again in the top of the seventh inning before senior outfielder
Katie Allen threw a strike to home plate to prevent Tia LeMaster from scoring and keeping the deficit to two runs.
The run saved proved to be crucial as Concord looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh.
Neri started the inning with a leadoff double before advancing to third base on a wild pitch. After Benvenuto walked, Allen provided a big play again, this time with her bat, to single home Neri and reduce the advantage to 3-2.
After a double steal from Benvenuto and Allen moved two runners into scoring position for Lewis, the Kearneysville, W.Va native smashed a double to left center to score the two seniors and win the game in walk-off fashion.
Lewis was 2-for-4 in the game, with two RBI. Neri added two hits and an RBI, while Allen was 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI.
Rose improved to 3-1 on the season, allowing just one earned run through seven innings.
Seniors Morris, Rose, Benvenuto, and Allen each had at least one RBI or a run scored on the special day.
Concord hosts No. 25 West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m.
