Concord Drops Two to Wesleyan

ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University softball team suffered two defeats to West Virginia Wesleyan in Mountain East Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the CU Softball Complex.
 
Concord drops to 29-21 overall (18-14 MEC) while WVWC improves to 45-7 overall (27-5 MEC). 
 
Game 1: West Virginia Wesleyan 14 - Concord 0
West Virginia Wesleyan scored six runs in the first inning to take and then added four more runs in the second inning to make the score 10-0 after two innings. The Mountain Lions did not register a hit as Hannah Vet and Alyssa Shawgo combined for a no-hitter through five innings.

Freshman pitcher / outfielder Abby Beatty (8-3) was charged with the loss for the Mountain Lions. 
 
Game 2: West Virginia Wesleyan 10 - Concord 0
West Virginia Wesleyan used back-to-back-to-back home runs in the second inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Bobcats plated seven more runs in the third inning. The Mountain Lions collected three hits on the day. Freshman second baseman Kylie Kent, senior second baseman / outfielder Kristen Rose and junior shortstop Alayna Furr each registered a hit for CU.

Rose (2-2) was charged with the loss in the circle for the Mountain Lions. 
 
Concord now looks ahead to the Mountain East Conference Tournament, where it will be paired with Wheeling Jesuit in the opening game of the tournament. The Mountain Lions are 1-1 against WJU this season. Look for more information regarding the MEC Tournament in the coming days.
