MOUNTAIN LION NOTESCU is 2-6 overall heading into the series with the Rams after defeating UPJ 7-3 and 11-9.
With Concord pounding out 26 hits in the two wins over Pitt-Johnstown Sunday at Epling Stadium in Beckley, West Virginia, the Mountain Lions brought their team batting up from .279 to .314.
Redshirt freshman catcher / first baseman
Jordan Clark, the reigning Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, led the Maroon and Gray offense as he went 4-for-7 with one home run and six RBI. Additionally, Clark had three doubles for the series.
Clark has three straight multi-hit games and is batting .400 this season (8-for-20).
Senior outfielder
Andrew Seigel collected four hits against Pitt-Johnstown to record 200 hits for his career. Seigel also scored three runs over the two games, and now has 155 runs scored in his career.
With five more runs scored, the Ashburn, Virginia native can tie Joe Besl for ninth in all-time runs scored at CU.
Seigel (.483 average) is one of two Mountain Lions with a batting average over .400 eight games into the season.
Senior infielder
Brad Sullivan is batting .414, and has a hit in every game this season.
In all seven games he has started at shortstop, freshman infielder
Brett Simmons has at least one hit to record a seven-game hitting streak.
Along with Simmons and Sullivan, senior infielder
Holt Cassada also has a hitting streak of five or more games with a base knock in six straight games.
Against UPJ, senior pitcher
Chris Kelly tied Kevin McClung for fourth all-time wins at CU with 21. With his next victory, Kelly will tie Jason Sharp for third all-time.
Junior pitcher
Eli Flynn struck out the side in the nightcap to record his first career save as a Mountain Lion.
Concord and WSSU split a doubleheader last March as CU won the first game 5-2 before falling 1-0 in the second.
Cassada and Sullivan each had two hits in the first game while Cassada, senior outfielder
Charles Goss and sophomore outfielder
Andy Szamski each had an RBI.
Sophomore pitcher
Damon Frazier collected his first career save by going two innings and allowing just one run and striking out two hitters.
In the nightcap, junior pitcher
Nate Werner put together one of his best collegiate starts as he pitched 6.2 innings allowing five hits and allowed one run while striking out five.
CU is 2-3 all-time versus Winston-Salem State.
SCOUTING WINSTON-SALEM STATEÂ The Rams are 6-10 this season, but four of those games came against nationally-ranked Millersville.
WSSU split a four-game set with Charleston this past weekend, and fell to mutual CU opponent 2-0 Tuesday.
Nathan Steger is batting .345 with three home runs and 10 RBI. Steger has also been impressive on the mound with an ERA of 1.99 and 23 strikeouts in 22 innings of work.
Justin Norton has worked 27 innings for the Rams with 28 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.62.
