URBANA, Ohio – The Concord University baseball team's bats broke out as it swept Urbana Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at the UU Baseball Field by scores of 7-3 and 15-3.
The Mountain Lions improve to 10-14 overall and even their MEC record to 4-4. Meanwhile, Urbana is 7-15 overall and 3-5 in the MEC.
Game 1: Concord 7 – Urbana 3A bases-clearing double in the fifth inning by redshirt freshman infielder
Trevor Wiersma helped the Mountain Lions erase 3-1 deficit entering the inning as they went on to win by four runs.
Each team scored in the third as senior infielder
Holt Cassada came around to score on a fielder's choice by senior outfielder
Andrew Seigel after Cassada led off the frame with a double. But, UU plated three of its own runs to gain a 3-1 edge.
The score remained the same until the fifth when Wiersma came up clutch for Concord. Sophomore infielder

Brad Sullivan and sophomore outfielder
Andy Szamski all reached with two outs and were brought home on a three-run double by Wiersma. Earlier in the inning, Seigel had scored on an error by UU.
In the sixth, CU tacked on two more insurance runs as Frazier connected on a two-run single scoring Seigel and freshman infielder
Brett Simmons for Concord's final margin of victory.
After giving up three runs in the third, freshman pitcher
Troy Beckner (1-4) allowed just three base runners over the final four innings as he earned his first career win.
Beckner pitched seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits while fanning a career-high seven hitters.
At the plate, Frazier was 2-for-4 with two RBI while Wiersma was 1-for-3 with three RBI.
Game 2: Concord 15 – Urbana 3Two home runs by redshirt freshman outfielder
Jordan Clark and one by Wiersma was more than enough for Concord to complete the doubleheader sweep of the Blue Knights.
Once again, CU used the third inning to strike first on Urbana.
Simmons scored on a double by Frazier before Szamski singled in Frazier. The scoring continued in the frame as Clark had an RBI base hit.
The Blue Knight cut into the CU lead with a run in the bottom half of the third inning.
However, Concord began to put the game out of reach in the fifth as Wiersma launched his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot to right field.
The Mountain Lions plated 10 runs over the final three innings to win the game, 15-3.
In those 10 runs were two home runs and six RBI from Clark as he hit a two-shot blast in the seventh and a three-run homer in the ninth to bring his season total to three.
For the game, Clark finished 3-for-4 with two home runs and seven RBI while Frazier was a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI. Simmons and sophomore
Paul Williams each turned in a multi-hit game as Simmons went 3-for-5, and Williams was 2-for-5.
Junior pitcher
Nate Werner improved to 2-3 as he tossed 6.1 innings and gave up three runs while striking out four batters. Sophomore pitcher
Reece Edwards recorded the final eight outs, allowing just one base runner.
CU hosts Fairmont State 1:00 p.m. Friday.
