ATHENS, W.Va- A fast start by Concord wasn't enough to garner two wins for the Mountain Lions as they split a two-game set with the University of Charleston on Friday evening at the CU Softball Complex.Â
Concord steadies their record at 14-12, while Charleston is now 18-5 on the year.Â

Game 1: Charleston 10 - Concord 9 After falling in a 10-5 hole, Concord mounted a five-run rally in the seventh inning, but came up just short in game one as UC hung on for a 10-9 win over the Mountain Lions.

Alycea Watson got CU to within 10-8. Also in the frame, freshman first baseman
Lauren Blunt crossed home plate to make the score 10-9. However, UC's Jessie Rowe got a flyout to leave the potential game-tying run on base for Concord.
For the game, Kent had two RBI while Herndon was 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. Also notching a multi-hit game for the Maroon and Gray was
Alycea Watson.
Herndon was tagged with the loss after giving up seven earned runs in a complete-game effort.
Game 2: Concord 10 - Charleston 4CU scored eight runs over the final three innings to dig out of an early advantage and win game two by a comfortable margin.
After falling behind 4-2 after Charleston batted in the top of the fourth, the Mountain Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the frame. Freshman pitcher / outfielder
Abby Beatty began the inning with a double, and the hit parade continued with Watson doubling in Beatty and Watson scoring on a RBI base hit from junior outfielder
Lauren Lewis. Later in the inning, Lewis scored on sophomore catcher / designated hitter
Nicole Neri's RBI single to push Concord in front 5-4.
In the fifth, Watson doubled in senior second baseman / outfielder
Kristen Rose before CU took advantage of some Charleston blunders to the field to plate four more runs in the sixth to win 10-4.
Watson led the offense by going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Lewis and Neri both had two hit games while Morris had two RBI and Rose notched three hits.
Beatty kept her record perfect (3-0) after entering the game in the first inning down 3-0. The Roanoke, Virginia native scattered five hits and one run in 6.2 innings of work.
Concord returns to the field tomorrow in a conference matchup against West Virginia State. First pitch is scheduled for 2 P.M.
