MOUNTAIN LION NOTESCU will be looking to start a winning streak after falling in a doubleheader to Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday at Epling Stadium in Beckley, West Virginia.
The Mountain Lions are 5-10 this season.
In Tuesday's doubleheader, freshman pitcher
Troy Beckner was the hard-luck loser for Concord as he pitched nine strong innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs. However, Beckner struck out six batters and allowed just two base runners from the fourth to the ninth inning before giving up a solo home run to begin the 10th inning.
Redshirt freshman infielder
Trevor Wiersma led the offensive attack in game one for the Maroon and Gray against L-R with three hits, his first career three-hit game.
Sophomore catcher
Paul Williams recorded two hits in game one Tuesday while also scoring one run. Since the calendar turned to March, Williams has raised his batting average from .200 to .262. Furthermore, Williams appears to be heating up at the right time as the Vinton, Virginia native hit .333 during conference play last year.
In the field, sophomore infielder
Chad Frazier has been busy at his second base position.
In game two against Lenoir-Rhyne, Frazier was involved in 10 plays, five assists and five putouts, a season-high in total outs recorded for CU's middle infielder.
Frazier has a perfect fielding percentage in 47 chances this season.
This season, Frazier has made a vast improvement in the field after committing 11 errors in 44 games last year.
Last weekend, Concord outscored WLU 15-5 in a two-game, non-conference series at Anderson Field.
Sophomore pitcher
Damon Frazier put together his best outing as a Mountain Lion by going seven innings and only giving up five hits and one earned run.
In his last 12 innings pitched, dating back to his start against Winston-Salem State, D. Frazier has limited the opponent to 10 hits and one run.
Senior outfielder
Andrew Seigel and senior infielder
Brad Sullivan each had a multi-hit game versus the Hilltoppers.
CU's top two hitters combined to go 8-for-13 with three runs scored and five RBI a week ago.
Last season, the Mountain Lions took three of four games from Wheeling Jesuit as CU won the first three games of the series before WJU won the final game.
Senior pitcher
Chris Kelly pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs and striking out three, in a 7-3 win for the Maroon and Gray.
Sophomore outfielder
Andy Szamski was 5-for-11 with four runs scored and three RBI in the series versus the Cardinals.
Additionally, Williams also had three RBI last season against WJU.
The Mountain Lions have won nine of their last 10 against Wheeling Jesuit.
