Game Recap: Softball |

Concord Defeated in Two Games at Salem Invite

SALEM, Va. – The Concord University softball fell in a pair of games to Tiffin 8-0 and Indiana (Pa.) 8-3 at the Salem Invitational.

Concord drops to 11-7 this season.

Game 1: Tiffin 8 – Concord 0
An error by Concord in the second inning kept a Tiffin rally alive and allowed TU to score four runs in the frame and take four run lead on its way to a shortened five-inning win.

Tiffin added two runs each in the fourth and fifth inning as well.

Freshman pitcher / outfielder Abby Beatty, junior shortstop Alayna Furr and junior pitcher / outfielder Sarah Herndon had one hit each.

Herndon was charged with the loss as just two of the eight runs she gave up were earned.

Game 2: IUP 8 – Concord 3
A six-run first inning was too much for CU to overcome in a defeat in the nightcap.

After the Crimson Hawks extended their lead to 7-0, the Mountain Lions got a run back in the fifth as sophomore infielder Alycea Watson plated senior outfielder Kristi Benvenuto on an RBI groundout.

Concord mounted a rally in the seventh, down by seven, as senior second baseman Kristen Rose stroked a double to center field to score Benvenuto and senior catcher Alyssa Morris, but the run was stopped as IUP got the final out of the game.

Sophomore catcher / first baseman Nicole Neri and Rose each had two hits in the game while Furr and Morris each collected a base knock.

Freshman pitcher / utility Aarron Ward was tagged with the loss after allowing six earned run in six innings.

The Mountain Lions will turn their attention towards Mountain East Conference play 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Charleston  for the conference opener.
