MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
CU will be seeking its first win of the season Sunday afternoon after being swept by perennial Southeast regional contender Wingate last weekend.

In Sunday's game at Wingate, redshirt freshman catcher / first baseman Jordan Clark broke through with his first career RBI as he drove in three runs in the 9-8 loss to the Bulldogs.

Senior infielder Brad Sullivan pounded out three hits in the series finale against WU and was his first three-hit game since April 18 of last season when he had three hits against West Virginia Wesleyan.

After a four-hit weekend, senior outfielder Andrew Seigel stands just two hits shy of 200 for his career. Additionally, Seigel needs 12 hits to enter CU's all-time hits list.

Seigel (.435) and Sullivan (.409) are two of four MEC players than are hitting over .400 early in the season of players with at least 20 at-bats thus far.

Senior infielder Holt Cassada trails only Seigel for the team lead in multi-hit games. Cassada has three multi-hit games while Seigel has two or more hits in five of six games this season.

Cassada appears to be well on pace to surpass last season's total of 11 multi-hit games.

Senior pitcher Chris Kelly struck out a career-high nine batters in game one at Wingate.

Kelly went over 100 strikeouts for his career and needs 11 more strikeouts to tie Allen Schurdell for 10th all-time at Concord for career strikeouts with 115.

In 7.1 innings out of the bullpen, freshmen pitchers Clint Marsh and Reed McNeer have combined to give up just one earned run and seven hits.

Last season's scheduled series with UPJ was wiped out due to a snowstorm.

However, Concord and Pitt-Johnstown used to meet regularly in the now-defunct WVIAC with CU holding a 17-11 all-time series edge.

Two year ago, the Mountain Lions and UPJ met for a three-game series at Concord as CU took two of three games.

Senior outfielder Charles Goss and Sullivan each have a two-hit game in their career against UPJ while junior pitcher Eli Flynn collected a three-hit game while playing right field two seasons ago versus Pitt-Johnstown.

SCOUTING UPJ
The Mountain Cats are 2-3 this season with two losses coming against a common opponent of Concord, UNC-Pembroke.

UPJ has wins over Bloomsburg and Indiana (Pa.) this season.

Jake Stern is hitting .421 with two home runs and six RBI for UPJ.

Brantley Rice has posted a 1.80 ERA in 10 innings of work this season.
