Concord Readies for Twinbill at Lenoir-Rhye

ATHENS, W.Va. – Despite changes in the schedule, the Concord University softball team will play a doubleheader at Lenoir-Rhyne 2:00 p.m. Friday.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Concord swept through two games at the UNC-Pembroke Invitational, defeating UNCP 5-4, before disposing of Winston-Salem State 7-3 last weekend.

• Freshman catcher / third baseman Lauren Blunt drove in the winning run in the top of the seven to secure the victory against UNC-Pembroke while the Mountain Lions took advantage of errors from WSSU and stellar pitching from junior outfielder / pitcher Sarah Herndon to defeat the Rams.

• Herndon pitched a complete game allowing one earned run and striking out three. It was the second time in Herndon's career that she allowed one run or fewer while tossing seven or more innings.

• She also accomplished the feat two seasons ago versus Wheeling Jesuit when she threw eight innings and allowed one earned run.

• Junior shortstop Alayna Furr went 4-for-4 from the plate against Winston-Salem State and also scored four runs in the win. It was the first four-hit game of Furr's career.

• After one weekend of play, Furr is hitting .714 (5-for-7) with four runs scored and one RBI.

• The clutch hit from Blunt against UNCP helped her notch three RBI on the weekend, tying her for the team lead in RBI with senior catcher Alyssa Morris.

• Speaking of Morris, the Virginia Beach, Virginia native batted 4-for-5 in two games with a double and three RBI.

• By earning the win against UNC-Pembroke, senior pitcher Allie Reid recorded her 29th career win at Concord moving her into second place all-time. The Lovettsville, Virginia native can become the second player in school history to record 30 wins in a career with her next victory.

• CU is 0-2 all-time against Lenoir-Rhyne.

SCOUTING LENOIR-RHYNE
• The Bears are off to a 4-0 start and have outscored their opponents by a combined 48-14.

• Sydney Landreth and Jordin Phillips each have eight RBI this season and are batting .500.

• Last year, L-R had a record of 32-19, but were just 10-12 at home.
