ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's basketball team's second-half rally came up short Wednesday night as it fell to Glenville State 94-90 at the Carter Center in Mountain East action.
The Pioneers (1-3, 1-2 MEC) led by as much as 17 points in the first 12 minutes of the game. Concord (4-3, 1-2 MEC) grinded throughout the rest of the first half, but could never close the deficit to single digits in the as it trailed 46-33 at halftime.
Still down 14, 66-52, with 12:04 remaining in the contest, the Mountain Lions went on an 11-0 run over the next two minutes to close within three points. The spurt was balanced with senior guard

GSC jumped the lead back to 10, 73-63, in less than two minutes, but once again CU had a response. Eugene had his own dunk, Thompson hit a deep jump shot for two and Miller drilled one of his four three-pointers to narrow the deficit to three with 5:13 remaining.
Concord continued to battle with the Pioneers and after a layup from senior guard
Cam Shannon with three seconds left to make it 93-90 in favor of Glenville State, but the Pioneers hit one of two shots at the free-throw line to hang on for a 94-90 victory.
Miller led everyone in scoring with 26 points on 10-for-16 shooting including a 4-for-6 effort from distance. Sanchez and Shannon picked up right where they left off against Bluefield State.
Sanchez scored 16 and matched Miller's four three-pointers while handing out seven assists. Shannon converted some big shots late for Concord as he finished with 15 points. Junior guard
B.J. Hamlet came off the bench to score 11 points.
After shooting 37.5 percent in the first half, the Mountain Lions shot 60.6 percent in the second half and canned 7-of-12 shots from long range.
CU travels to West Virginia Wesleyan 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
