CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team could hold off a second-half charge from the University of Charleston as it fell on the road in Mountain East Conference action at the Charleston Catholic Athletic Complex by a score of 67-63.
A 17-2 run that span the first and second quarters put the Mountain Lions (1-4, 0-2 MEC) up 45-28 at halftime. Trailing 19-16 in the late stages of the first quarter, back-to-back three pointers from sophomore guard
Emily Boothe and
Alexis Lowery gave the Mountain Lions a three-point edge, its first lead of the game.

Taylor Baltimore and a three-pointer from junior guard
Lindsey Overbey extended the CU lead to 29-19. Concord took its biggest lead of the game, 45-26, right before the intermission as junior guard
Danielle Catron knocked down two from the charity stripe.
UC (2-3, 1-1 MEC) came out in the second half firing, but the Mountain Lions were able to maintain a double-digit lead until Charleston's Mya Walker hit a three-pointer to trim the CU lead to 54-45 in the third quarter.
After three quarters, the Mountain Lions were hanging onto a 56-49 advantage.
Boothe and Overbey each were successful on jump shots in the early stages of the fourth quarters as Concord ran its lead back to double figures, 60-50. The Golden Eagles responded by scoring 12 of the next 13 points to grab an advantage 62-61 with 2:18 remaining in the contest.
But Baltimore answered with 55 seconds left at the foul line as she converted both to give the Mountain Lions a 63-62 lead.
On back-to-back possessions, Charleston calmly knocked down four straight free throws and later sealed the game with an additional free throw with eight seconds left to win by four.
Lowery and Odell led Concord with 12 points each. Odell added eight rebounds. Overbey scored 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting while Boothe got to double digits scoring for the first time this season with 10 points off the bench.
The teams finished even on the glass with 31 each.
Jordyn Peck had a game-high 24 points for Charleston.
