ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball could not hold off Shepherd Friday night at the Carter Center as the Rams erased a 2-0 deficit and won in five sets.
Concord (17-14, 8-7 MEC) won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-19, but Shepherd (12-19, 5-10 MEC) won the next three sets, 25-20, 25-19 and 15-8 to win the match.
Leading 11-10 in the first set, the Mountain Lions won seven of the next nine points to take a commanding 18-12 lead in the first set. Freshman middle hitter

The second set was similar as Concord pulled away in the middle to late stages of the game two. Up 14-12 in the set, the Maroon and Gray went on an 8-5 run to expand its lead to 22-17. Junior middle hitter

Jenna Mounts notched a service ace.
Shepherd won the next three sets to win the match in five sets. In the third and fourth sets, the Rams went on late spurts in each instance and took a quick lead in the fifth game that it did not relinquish.
Heck tallied 12 kills and three blocks while hitting .364. Sophomore outside hitter
Alexi Pranckus finished with eight kills and eight digs while Ellis added seven kills and seven blocks.

Casey Mandeville handed out 23 assists.
The Mountain Lions conclude the regular season 1:00 p.m. Saturday against Fairmont State at the Carter Center.
