BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team staved off West Virginia Wesleyan Friday night in Mountain East Conference action at the Rockefeller Center.
The Mountain Lions (8-9, 3-2 MEC) won the first two sets before closing out the Bobcats (5-13, 1-4 MEC) in five sets.
CU used a comeback in the first set to grab a 1-0 lead in the match. Down 20-16, Concord went on a 9-3 run to close the set. Redshirt freshman outside hitter
Ellie Lawrence tallied two kills while freshman outside hitter and freshman setter
Jenna Mounts each had one kill in the run.
The second set was more nip and tuck as it featured eight ties. Concord was able to win three of the last five points in the set as sophomore middle hitter
Brooke Heck recorded two of her 10 kills in the match.
WVWC took the third and fourth set to force a final deciding game.
In the fifth set, the Mountain Lions once again was down in the late stages falling behind 12-10. However, Lawrence and Ellis combined for three kills to tie the set up at 13-13. A kill and an ace from Mounts secured the victory for the Maroon and Gray.
Along with Heck, Lawrence also had double-digit kills with 10 while adding 13 digs.

Alexi Pranckus each had career-high digs as they finished with 35 and 28 digs respectively. Junior setter
Casey Mandeville finished the night with a double-double of 21 assists and 10 digs.
Concord travels to Glenville State 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Â
