Concord Tripped Up By Urbana

ATHENS, W.Va-  The Concord University men's soccer team fell 5-1 to the visiting Blue Knights of Urbana in MEC men's soccer action on Friday afternoon. 

Concord falls to 4-7 (2-6 MEC), while Urbana improves to 8-2-1 on the season (6-2 MEC). 

The Mountain Lions held with the Blue Knights for the first 30 minutes, with the closest chance for Concord coming from junior midfielder Max Simpson.  The Huntington, West Virginia native cut inside from the left side and fired a shot from about 20 yards out that went just wide of the far post. 

The Blue Knights took the lead in the 30^th minute after Raphael Northoff fired in a free kick from about 25 yards out into the upper left corner.  UU capitalized again 10 minutes later at the 38:36 mark, and added a third goal at the 40:27 mark.  The Blue Knights managed to find a fourth goal just before halftime in the 42^nd minute. 

Just after halftime UU scored again to round out the scoring for the Blue Knights.

Freshman forward Jack Garwood managed to pull a goal back for the Mountain Lions off of low a free kick that rattled off of the inside of the in the 89^th minute.

The goal was Garwood's third of the season.    

UU outshot the Mountain Lions 19-4 throughout the game while holding a 9-1 advantage in shots on target. 
Concord continues conference play when it travels to Shepherd for a Sunday afternoon contest.  Kickoff is at 2:00 P.M.
