Concord Falls Short at West Virginia Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va-  The Concord University men's soccer team fell 4-2 on the road to West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday evening in Mountain East Conference action. 
 
Concord drops to 4-6 (2-5 MEC),while West Virginia Wesleyan improves to 5-5 on the year (4-3 MEC). 
 
CU had several attempts early, as junior midfielder Mahamadou Coulibaly fired a shot wide just a little over a minute into the game. The Mountain Lions had two more shots go high and wide of the goal by junior midfielder Alex Rhodes and freshman forward Sam Ashton in the 10th and 17th minute, respectively. 
 
However, it was the Bobcats took an early lead after Luca Falconeri scored in the 20th minute. The Bobcats continued to mount pressure on the Mountain Lions to close the first half, forcing sophomore goalkeeper Michael Adedigba to make four saves to end the first half over a span of 20 minutes.    
 
The second half began with shots from each team, as West Virginia Wesleyan's Conor Davies forced Adedigba to make another save in the 49th minute. Freshman midfielder Yacouba Issa Traore tested WVWC goalkeeper Alessandro Armenia with a shot in the 56th minute.     
 
The Bobcats broke through and extended their lead in the 57th and 60th minute to take a 3-0 advantage into the final 30 minutes of the game. 
 
CU fought back to score two goals in the next ten minutes, as freshman defender Pedro Bassin fired a shot that bounced off of the post and off of a Wesleyan defender in the 72nd minute.  Ashton fired a shot from the top of the box in the 82nd minute to cut the deficit to one. 
 
WVWC scored just 20 seconds later to restore a two-goal advantage it would take to the final whistle. 
 
The Bobcats outshot the Mountain Lions 17-9 overall and 14-4 in shots on goal. Adedigba finished with 10 saves in net for Concord.           

CU plays host to Urbana 4:00 p.m. Friday.
