ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team will host a second consecutive triangular match Saturday as it welcomes Virginia State and Bluefield State to the Carter Center.
GAME SCHEDULE

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
Concord enters Saturday with a 13-12 record this season.
CU fell on the road versus West Liberty Tuesday.
Sophomore middle hitter
Brooke Heck led the attack for the Mountain Lions by notching 14 kills while hitting .370 for the match.
Sophomore libero
Erin Shannon had 26 digs for Concord at WLU.
Shannon strengthened her lead in the Mountain East Conference in digs per set as the Frankfort, Illinois native is averaging 5.41 digs per set.
Shannon is also fourth in the region and 31
st nationally in digs per set.
Freshman
Emily Ellis notched four blocks, three solo, at West Liberty.
Ellis is third in the MEC in solo blocks this season with 20 while sitting sixth in blocks per set (1.00).
Heading into Saturday, Shannon needs two digs to top 500 for the season.
Additionally, Shannon has already surpassed her total from last season of 446 digs.
The Mountain Lions will be seeking a repeat of last Saturday when they went 2-0 against West Virginia Wesleyan and Winston-Salem State.
Heck and redshirt freshman outside hitter
Ellie Lawrence powered Concord in the four-set victory over WVWC as both had 13 kills.
For Lawrence, she set a career single-match best with 13 kills.
Junior setter
Casey Mandeville handed out 31 assists in the match as the Plain City, Ohio native went on to surpass 1,400 assists for her career later in the afternoon against Winston-Salem State.
Against WSSU, Heck notched 10 kills while freshman setter
Jenna Mounts collected 18 assists.
Concord hasn't played Bluefield State since the 2014 season, and of the current players only junior middle hitters
Alexis Elliott and
Shea Hoffman, Mandeville and junior outside hitter
Lisette Roldan appeared in the 2014 match.
CU swept the Blues in Elkins, West Virginia in 2014.
Hoffman recorded four kills and two blocks while Mandeville had nine assists.
The Mountain Lions will be matching up against Virginia State for the first time in head coach
Kate Southcott's tenure at CU which dates back to 2009.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA STATE
The Trojans are 15-7 this season.
Virginia State and CU have won common opponent to this point in the season. VSU beat UVa.-Wise in five sets earlier in the season, but lost to future Concord opponent Shepherd in four setsÂ
Tiara Ramey has spiked down 179 kills this season while Myia Jones has 48 blocks on the year.
SCOUTING BLUEFIELD STATE
BSC is 9-10 this season.
Bluefield State's latest matches were in Charleston against UC and Notre Dame. The Blues lost in four sets to Notre Dame and was swept by Charleston.
As a team, Bluefield State is hitting .166.
