SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio- The Concord University women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Notre Dame College on Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play.
Concord drops to 3-4-2 (3-3-2 MEC) on the season, while NDC improves to 6-1-2 (5-1-2 MEC).Â
The Mountain Lions started brightly when sophomore defender
Joanna Aiello forced NDC goalkeeper Sam Shoemaker into a save just four minutes into the match.Â
The Falcons countered with four attempts over the next ten minutes, with two of the efforts blocked by the CU defense and two attempts going wide of the goal.Â

Emily Simpkins was called into action in the 22
nd and 26
th minute, saving shots from NDC's Norah Barnes and Katarina Doncevic.Â
Freshman defender
Taylor Life saw an effort go wide of goal in the 36
th minute. Simpkins made two more saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless.Â
Simpkins continued to face pressure to start the second half, as the sophomore shot stopper made five more saves over the opening 15 minutes. Â
NDC broke through in the 75
th minute after Megan O'Connor latched onto a rebound to tap in NDC's first goal. Â The Falcons added an insurance goal in the 85
th minute from a free kick.Â
Concord found a goal with one minute remaining in the game, as junior defender
Sarah Akers placed a free kick from about 20 yards out past the goalkeeper.Â
Concord was outshot 23-6 overall, with the Falcons holding an advantage in attempts on goal,. 14-3. Simpkins ended up with 12 saves in net for CU.
The Mountain Lions stay on the road for its next matchup at West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.      Â
