ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team fell 86-57 Monday night in Mountain East Conference competition to West Virginia State at the Carter Center.
The Mountain Lions (3-14, 2-10 MEC) opened up a 10-7 lead with 4:46 left in the first quarter with sophomore guard
Marta Moix scoring six of the 10. But, West Virginia State (9-9, 6-6 MEC) closed the quarter on a 15-3 run to grab a 22-13 advantage after one quarter.
The Yellow Jackets grew their lead to 36-21 in the second quarter and held a 40-27 lead at halftime.
CU was unable to shrink the deficit back under 10 points throughout the rest of the game as it lost 86-57.
Coming off the bench for the first time this season, sophomore guard
Danielle Catron scored 12 points while Moix finished with nine points. Senior forward
Kylie Molisee added nine points and seven rebounds.
West Virginia State shot 54 percent for the game while CU was 20-for-54 from the field (37 percent).
Aurreshae Hines paced the Yellow Jackets with 18 points including four three-pointers.
Concord has a quick turnaround as it plays at Bluefield State 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.
