Concord Opens 2016 with Four Road Games

ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University women's basketball team heads into Monday's matchup at Shepherd with a 3-6 record overall and a 2-2 record in Mountain East Conference play. Concord will then travel to Fairmont State on Wednesday to take on the Fighting Falcons. Shepherd, after winning 22 games last seasonis off to a 2-8 start overall, and is 1-3 in conference play. Fairmont State is currently 7-3 overall but has started off just 1-3 in conference play.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
•  In addition to ranking second in the MEC in field goal percentage defense, Concord has also racked up at least eight steals in five of their nine games this season, including 16 combined in the games vs. Winston-Salem State and Davis & Elkins.

• While Concord went 0-2 in those games, CU has managed to keep their opponents to 70 points or fewer in eight of their nine games this season, with the one blemish coming against Glenville State, who leads Division II in scoring at 96.3 points per game.

• Sophomore guard Danielle Catron, junior guard Alexis Lowery, junior guard Marta Moix, and junior guard Olivia Morgan all have at least 12 steals this season.Catron has now moved into the top five in the Mountain East Conference in field goal percentage.

• Catron is shooting 45.8 percent from the field, and is also knocking down 36.4 percent of her three-point field goals this year. Catron has made seven-of-eight free throws this season as well.

• The Marion, Virginia native has also scored in double figures in seven of Concord's nine games on the year, and has reached the double digit mark in four straight games leading up to the matchup against Shepherd.

• Junior center Alley Odell had a career night against the Rams last year in Concord's 64-59 loss in Athens.

• The Richmond, Virginia native was instrumental in the game against Shepherd, going for a career-high 17 points, eight rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal in 32 minutes of
action.

• She also managed her 17 points on just 11 shots from the field.

• She also made all five of her free throws she attempted that night.

SCOUTING SHEPHERD
• Shepherd is coming off of a remarkable 22-10 season and a win in the NCAA Tournament last season.

• Head Coach Jenna Eckleberry earned MEC Coach of the Year honors for the Ram's efforts on the court.

• TheRams are off to a 2-8 start this year. Shepherd is led by Morgan Arden,who is averaging 18.1 points per game, which ranks fourth in the Mountain East Conference.

• Liz Myers ranks fifth in the Mountain East Conference in rebounds per game with 9.2.

• Cara Mason averages 4.5 assists per game, which ranks fifth in the MEC.

SCOUTING FAIRMONT STATE
• The Fighting Falcons have gotten off to a respectable 7-3 start to the year, but are just 1-3 in conference play.

• Amanda Ruffner leads Fairmont in scoring, with 17.7 points per game.

• Ruffner is also second in the MEC in field goal percentage, shooting 60.8 percent from the field.

• Makenzie White is dishing out 5 assists per game for Fairmont.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
6- The amount of games Concord has held its opponents to 40 percent or less field goal percentage from the field.

11- Amount of steals forced by Concord against Davis & Elkins, the fourth time Concord has had double-digit steals in a game this season.
