Concord Comes Up Short at Hall of Fame City Challenge

CANTON, Ohio – The Concord University volleyball team lost a pair of matches at the Hall of Fame City Challenge Saturday to Urbana (25-13, 25-17, 25-21) and host Malone (25-19, 25-21, 25-16).

CU drops to 0-4 this season.

Match 1: Urbana 3 – Concord 0
Sophomore outside hitter Lisette Roldan paced the Maroon and Gray with nine kills and a career-best .600 in 16 attack attempts. Freshman setter Jayden Jacobs added 12 assists for the Mountain Lions.

CU also received five kills from sophomore middle hitter Shea Hoffman.

The Blue Knights were able to jump out to commanding leads in the first two sets before erasing an early 9-7 deficit in the third set to sweep CU.

Match 2: Malone 3 – Concord 0
Freshman outside hitter Alexi Pranckus became the first Mountain Lion to reach double-digit kills in a match in the early season by spiking down 10 balls against Malone.

Sophomore setter Casey Mandeville recorded 16 assists while Jacobs added 13 assists.

Freshman libero Erin Shannon had 12 digs and freshman middle hitter Brooke Heck tallied five kills and five blocks.

After a back-and-forth first set, the Pioneers were able to win six of the final seven points of the game to take set one. Concord fought back from an early deficit to tie the second set at 16 before Malone pulled away once again.

A 9-2 run by Malone midway through the third set proved too much for Concord as it was swept.

The Mountain Lions will resume play next weekend, September 11-12, when they travel to the Davis & Elkins Tournament in Elkins, West Virginia.
