ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University women's soccer team started its home campaign with a 0-0 draw versus Tiffin on Saturday afternoon.
Senior forward
Kari Simon recorded three shots, with one on goal. Freshman forward
Pilar Elias also registered three shots with one on goal. Junior forward
Emily Cole added 2 shots with one on goal.
CU was outshot 15-10 by Tiffin, but both teams had four shots each on goal. The two teams were even on corner kicks with four apiece.
Freshman goalkeeper
Emily Simpkins earned the first clean sheet of her career and has only given up one goal through 200 minutes of soccer this season. The Mountain Lions had a few clear chances inside the penalty area, including Elias forcing a sprawling save out of Tiffin goalkeeper Samantha Ortenzi in the 65
th minute.
Both teams pressed hard in the second half looking for the go-ahead goal, with 12 of the 19 shots in regulation coming in the second half.
Simon had the only shot on goal for CU in overtime, while Tiffin also had a look at goal, with Simpkins making one of her four saves.
Concord travels to Wheeling Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
