CHARLESTON, W.Va- The Concord University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw on Thursday afternoon at the Trace Fork Soccer Complex.
Concord's record now stands at 3-2-3, while Charleston is 4-1-2 on the season.
Charleston took the early lead when Ivey Nucilli headed home a cross from Isabella Jaffin in the 17
th minute. Concord responded when senior forward
Kari Simon sprinted down the left side of the penalty area before dragging her cross back to the foot of senior defender
Samantha Wood, who tapped the ball home to even the game at 1-1 right before halftime.
Charleston outshot the Mountain Lions 18-12, but CU managed to edge Charleston in attempts on goal 8-7.
Concord was outshot in the first half 12-4, but responded in the second half matching Charleston on total shots 5-5. Concord also outshot the Golden Eagles 2-1 in the overtime periods.
Neither team could find the winning goal in the second half or overtime, with freshman goalkeeper
Emily Simpkins making several key saves to preserve the tie for the Mountain Lions. Simpkins totaled six saves for CU on the day.
Simon almost netted the game-winning goal with 15 seconds left to play, when her shot forced a sprawling save by Charleston goalkeeper Zoe Zyta.

Joanna Aiello and Simon both had three shots (two on goal), while freshman defender
Alison Backel and sophomore midfielder
Micharae Thompson each had one shot on goal for the Mountain Lions.
Concord next faces West Liberty at home on Wednesday, September 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
