WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team dropped a doubleheader against West Liberty Sunday afternoon at Kovalick Field in Mountain East Conference action.
CU (26-19, 22-16 MEC) lost the first game 8-6 before falling 6-3 in the nightcap.
Game 1: West Liberty 8 – Concord 6WLU (24-17, 20-12 MEC) overcame a 6-5 fifth-inning deficit to down the Mountain Lions.

Ryan Johnston broke a 5-5 deadlock in the game, however, West Liberty scored two runs in the bottom of the frame including the go-ahead run to take a 7-6 lead.
The Hilltoppers added an insurance run in the sixth as they went onto to win 8-6.
Freshman outfielder
Andy Szamski led the Mountain Lions offense going 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI.
Brockway, junior outfielder
Andrew Seigel and junior shortstop
Brad Sullivan added an RBI for the Maroon and Gray while Seigel also scored two runs.
Sophomore pitcher
Nate Werner (4-3) was tagged with the loss as he tossed 4.1 innings, giving up five runs and striking out four hitters.
Game 2: West Liberty 6 – Concord 3The Hilltoppers scored the first three runs of the game, before the Mountain Lions knotted the game up at 3-3 in the top of the sixth. Just like game one though, WLU answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure a 6-3 victory.
During the CU sixth, Szamski drove a one-out double to right center field to cut the CU deficit to 3-2. Szamski's extra-base hit came on the heels of redshirt freshman infielder

Groves scored the game-tying run as sophomore catcher
Paul Williams knocked a single into left field. On the same play, Szamski, the game's go-ahead run, was thrown out at home keeping the score tied at 3-3.
West Liberty led off the bottom of the inning with a home run to quickly regain the lead while adding two more in the frame to win 6-3.
Redshirt freshman pitcher / third baseman
Damon Frazier (2-5) was charged with the loss in relief.
Szamski and Williams combined for all four CU hits with two each.
Concord will play Bluefield State in its final non-conference contest of the season Wednesday.
