Concord Falls at Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Concord University softball team dropped a pair of games to the University of Charleston Thursday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play.

The Mountain Lions (22-10, 10-2 MEC) had its impressive 17-game win streak snapped by the Golden Eagles as Charleston won two one-run games, 1-0 and 4-3.

Game 1: Charleston 1 - Concord 0
A solo home run by Charleston in the fifth inning was enough for the Golden Eagles as UC's Courtney Fain limited Concord to two hits for the game.

Senior pitcher / first baseman Lacey McDougall (10-4) gave up five hits and one run in tossing her 11th complete game of the season.

Junior second baseman Kristen Rose and senior outfielder Jessica Seymour each recorded a hit for the Mountain Lions.

Game 2: Charleston 4 - Concord 3
Charleston jumped on Concord early with three runs in the first two innings before extending the lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning.

Down 4-0 going to the sixth inning, McDougall lined a double to the outfield as the two-base hit plated sophomore shortstop Alayna Furr, junior pitcher Allie Reid and freshman infielder Alycea Watson to draw within 4-3. With runners on the corners and still just one out in the sixth, UC's Fain notched back-to-back strikeouts to end the Concord rally.

Reid singled in the seventh, but UC induced a double play to end the game.

Freshman pitcher Katie Snodgress (5-2) suffered the loss for Concord as she gave up three runs in 1.2 innings of work. McDougall and Reid combined to work the final 4.1 innings and did not allow an earned run.

CU will continue its road trip 2:00 p.m. Saturday at West Virginia State.
