ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team remained undefeated at home as it cruised past Glenville State, 10-0 and 8-0, Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at the CU Softball Complex.
CU improved to 24-10 overall and 12-2 in the MEC while also running its home record to 12-0 this season. Meanwhile, Glenville State fell to 8-22 overall and 3-11 in the conference.
Game 1: Concord 10 – Glenville State 0 (Five Innings)The Mountain Lions scored eight runs in the first two inning as they easily dispatched of GSC.
In the first inning, sophomore shortstop
Lauren Lewis drove in one of her two runs of game one with a single. Junior second baseman
Kristen Rose plated a run on a fielder's choice while senior first baseman
Brantlea Wood drew a bases-loaded walk and freshman infielder
Alycea Watson recorded an RBI sacrifice fly.
Junior catcher
Alyssa Morris' MEC-leading 11
th home run of the season highlighted another four-run inning in the second.
Two RBI groundouts, one by Lewis and another by senior outfielder
Jessica Seymour, concluded the Mountain Lion scoring for the game in the third inning.
Senior pitcher / first baseman
Lacey McDougall worked three innings, allowing just three hits to improve to 11-4 this season. Sophomore pitcher
Sarah Herndon tossed the final two innings, surrendering two hits to GSC.
Lewis and McDougall combined for four hits and four RBI in the win.
Game 2: Concord 8 – Glenville State 0 (Five Innings)Lewis and McDougall picked up in game two where they left off in game one as Lewis launched home runs number seven and eight of the season while McDougall added her sixth homer of the season.
Lewis' first inning blast plated Morris while her third inning drive brought in Seymour. McDougall led off the third with a drive to left field.
In addition to the six RBI accounted for by Lewis and McDougall, sophomore catcher
Carly DiVirgilio went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI in the game.
Junior pitcher
Allie Reid held GSC scoreless in the first four innings, allowing two hits and striking out for batters. Freshman pitcher
Katie Snodgress worked a perfect fifth in relief of Reid.
Sophomore shortstop
Alayna Furr had her team-leading 12
th multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4. Lewis and DiVirgilio added two hits each in the victory.
Concord will host West Virginia Wesleyan in pivotal league showdown at home 1:00 p.m. Sunday. WVWC is first in the MEC standings at 11-1 while CU enters Sunday in second place at 12-2.
