WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team finished off its northern West Virginia panhandle road trip by splitting with West Liberty Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play.
Concord (27-13, 15-5 MEC) fell in the first game 2-1 before rebounding to win the nightcap over WLU (15-27, 5-15 MEC), 6-3.
Game 1: West Liberty 2 – Concord 1Game one turned into a pitcher's duel between Concord's
Allie Reid and the Hilltoppers' Savannah Sieger.
Reid (7-3) pitched a complete game as she limited West Liberty to two runs on five hits while fanning five batters. Meanwhile, Sieger gave up one run on eight hits and also struck out five.
West Liberty scored a single run in the first and third inning to grab an early 2-0 edge.
The lone CU run came via a fifth-inning sacrifice fly from junior catcher
Alyssa Morris that scored sophomore shortstop
Alayna Furr.
After Furr's leadoff single in the fifth, the next nine Concord batters were retired as it fell short 2-1.
Game 2: Concord 6 – West Liberty 3CU broke a scoreless fifth inning tie as it pushed two runs across in the frame before piling on four more in the sixth inning to earn a split with WLU.
The fifth inning rally started with sophomore catcher

Jessica Seymour reaching base. The duo would score on a two-RBI single by freshman infielder
Alycea Watson two batters later.
The sixth inning scoring started in a similar way as CU loaded the bases on three consecutive singles before junior second baseman
Kristen Rose ripped a double down the left field line to score DiVirgilio and sophomore third baseman
Courtney Purtell. Reid's two-base hit was followed by a two-RBI double from Watson as she brought around Rose and Seymour.
WLU scored a run in the sixth and two in the seventh, but senior first baseman / pitcher
Lacey McDougall induced a groundout to the end the game with the game-tying run at the plate.
McDougall picked up 13
th win of the season by allowing two earned runs and striking out four batters in seven innings in the circle.
Watson had a her first career four-RBI game while Rose had her third multi-RBI game of the season.
Concord will play at UVa.-Wise 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.Â
