Concord Shuts Out Urbana in Doubleheader Sweep

ATHENS, W.Va. – Senior pitcher / first baseman Lacey McDougall and freshman pitcher Katie Snodgress limited Urbana to six hits in 14 innings as the Concord University softball team swept a doubleheader from the Blue Knights 7-0 and 7-0 in Mountain East Conference play Sunday afternoon at the CU Softball Complex.

Winners of 15 in a row, Concord improved to 20-8 overall and 8-0 in MEC action, the only undefeated team remaining in conference play. Urbana falls to 7-16 overall and 2-6 in the MEC.
Game 1: Concord 7 – Urbana 0
McDougall silenced the Urbana bats by allowing just two hits and retiring 16 of the last 17 batters she faced.

At point, McDougall retired 13 consecutive batters from the third inning until a lead-off single from UU's Caitlyn Stoner in the seventh. In the process, McDougall elevated her season record to 9-3 while recording her fifth complete-game shutout.

At the plate, McDougall added two RBI on a two-run single in the seventh inning for Concord's final scoring in the game.

Junior catcher Alyssa Morris launched a home run in the third inning, her ninth homer of the season to vault CU out to a 3-0 advantage at the time. The Mountain Lions added to their lead in the fourth inning with an RBI single from sophomore shortstop Alayna Furr before McDougall tallied two RBI in the seventh.

Senior first baseman Brantlea Wood plated freshman infielder Alycea Watson with one of her three hits in the game in the seventh inning as well.

Game 2: Concord 7 – Urbana 0
The nightcap was almost a mirror image of game one as CU got timely hits and the pitching silenced Urbana's offense.

Concord began the game by scoring three runs in the first inning as junior second baseman Kristen Rose and Wood scored on Blue Knights' miscues in the field for two of the runs. Sophomore outfielder Lauren Lewis added a sacrifice fly in the frame, plating McDougall.

Early offense was more than enough for Snodgress as she sat down the first 10 Urbana hitters in game two and allowed just four hits to improve to 4-1 this season and lower her team-leading ERA to 0.68.

The Mountain Lions continued to add to its lead with two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.

McDougall's fourth-inning single to center field scored senior outfielder Jessica Seymour, who had led off the inning with a ground-rule double, and Furr.

In the fifth, CU scored two runs without a single hit.

An RBI groundout from Furr allowed Watson to cross the plate while Seymour scampered home on a wild pitch from UU starter Sierra Fent.

McDougall was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI. Morris two hits in the nightcap to keep her average.

After the doubleheader, McDougall joined Furr (.469) and Morris (.415) as CU players with a batting average over .400. McDougall's average is now .410.

Concord will host Notre Dame 12:00 p.m. Monday.
