RECORDS• Concord is 10-9 overall and 9-7 in the MEC which places it fifth in the league standings.
• GSC has compiled an overall mark of 4-14 and 4-10 in the conference.
THE COACHES• In the middle of his fifth season at his alma mater,
Andrew Wright is 136-97 at Concord.
• GSC's James Mullins is in his second season at Glenville State and is 13-55
MOUNTAIN LION NOTESe• Against West Virginia State Tuesday, CU split a twin bill with the Yellow Jackets as Concord won game on 3-2 before falling 8-7 in the night cap.
• Freshman outfielder
Andy Szamski propelled the offense with the go-ahead RBI in the seventh inning of game one, and returned in game two with two RBI.
• Szamski has a nine-game hitting streak entering the weekend which is the longest for any Concord player this season.
• Sophomore pitcher
Nate Werner continued to be the most consistent pitcher for the Mountain Lions as he limited WVSU to two runs in five innings of work.
• This season, Werner is 1-1 with a team-best ERA (3.24) in four starts and has pitched two complete games for CU.
• Senior outfielder
Jerrod Groves has reached base in 14 consecutive games and has a team-high .487 on-base percentage
• In addition to the 16 hits Groves has pounded out this year, the Covington, Virginia native has drawn 14 walks and been hit by a pitch eight times, both club leads.
• With a stellar weekend against the Pioneers, Groves and senior first baseman
Ryan Johnston can both move up the all-time hits list at Concord.
• Groves starts the weekend with 205 career hits, ninth all-time, while Johnston is 10
th with 203 hits.
• The duo stands just six and eight hits respectively away from passing former Concord infielder Josh Wenger for eighth all-time.
• On the stolen bases record list, junior outfielder
Andrew Seigel can move into second, passing Keith Morrisroe in the process, with five steals against GSC.
• Seigel has swiped 57 career bases and is 8-for-9 this season in steal attempts.
• In two of his last three starts junior pitcher
Chris Kelly has tossed a complete game shutout.
• Last weekend at Notre Dame, Kelly limited the Falcons' offense to three hits while striking out two batters to move to 3-1 this season.
• The Mountain Lions boasts a fielding percentage of .965, third best in the league.
• Seigel and Szamski each had a fielding percentage of 1.000 with 41 and 38 chances, respectively.
• Johnston has committed just one error at first base in 163 chances this season for a fielding percentage of .994.
• Behind the plate, junior catcher
Charles Goss and freshman catcher
Paul Williams have only mishandled the ball twice between them in 90 combined chances.
• Concord is 10-0 against the Pioneers in program history, including a four-game sweep of GSC at Anderson Field last season.
• In three games against Glenville State, Seigel managed to go 6-for-11 with three runs scored and five RBI.
• Meanwhile, Goss was 4-for-8 with five RBI in the first three games of the series.
• Kelly pitched well against Glenville State in his one career start, going seven innings and only allowing one earned run and striking out five as Concord won 5-4 last year.
• Sophomore
Zach Kelly got plenty of run support in his 12-2 victory over GSC a season ago. Z. Kelly worked five inning allowing two earned runs and fanning two hitters.
SCOUTING GLENVILLE STATE• Glenville State's John Hunter is third in the MEC in stolen bases behind Notre Dame's Danny Beaver (10) and Seigel (eight). Hunter is 7-for-7 on steal attempts.
• Karl Bennington has the top ERA for the Pioneers (3.57) in 17.2 innings of work.
• The Pioneers' offense is paced by Tucker Abruzzino who is hitting .275 with eight RBI.
