ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team downed UVa.-Wise twice, 9-1, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at the CU Softball Complex to push its winning streak to 13 games.
Concord is a perfect 6-0 in league play while they have compiled a record of 18-8 overall. The Cavaliers are 1-11 and 1-5 in MEC after the doubleheader.
Game 1: Concord 9 – Uva.-Wise 1 (Five Innings)The Mountain Lions turned a 3-1 edge into a mercy rule victory by scoring six runs in the fifth inning.
Senior first baseman / pitcher
Lacey McDougall improved her record to 8-3 by allowing just one run in five innings. After McDougall gave up a first-inning run, she retired eight consecutive batters and 12 of the next 13.
CU scored two first-inning runs as sophomore shortstop / outfielder
Lauren Lewis' double brought in McDougall and junior second baseman / outfielder
Kristen Rose was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
In the six-run sixth, Â junior catcher / outfielder
Carly DiVirgilio's pinch hit single was the biggest blow of the frame as it plated Rose and freshman shortstop / third baseman

Jessica Seymour scored on a wild pitch.

Game 2: Concord 5 – UVa.-Wise 2CU picked up its first win on the season when trailing after five innings as it scored four innings in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 2-1 deficit.
The Mountain Lions loaded the bases to start the sixth with back-to-back singles down the foul lines from Lewis and Morris. The two singles was followed by a bunt base hit by pinch hitter senior second baseman
Whitney Carrigan.
Once again it was DiVirgilio who came up clutch as she punched a line drive base hit to center field that brought across pinch runner
Alyssa Bohnam and Lewis to give CU a 3-2 lead.
Reid added two more runs as Carrigan and DiVirgilio managed to score on Reid's base hit to give the Mountain Lions and Reid, who earned the win in a relief appearance, two more insurance runs.
Reid tossed the final three innings to move to 5-2 this season after freshman pitcher / outfielder
Katie Snodgress hurled the four innings giving up two runs (one earned) while striking out five batters.
Morris was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while Furr notched two hits to extend her hitting streak to 16 games, which is the longest for a CU player since Lewis had a streak of 20 straight games with a hit.
The Mountain Lions will host Notre Dame 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
