ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball ran its winning streak to seven by sweeping Bluefield State 8-0 and 11-3 Thursday afternoon at the CU Softball Complex in non-conference action.
With the help of senior first baseman / pitcher
Lacey McDougall, the Mountain Lions improved their record to 12-8 overall while Bluefield State fell to 3-9.
Game 1: Concord 8 – Bluefield State 0 (Five Innings)Concord scored six runs in the first two innings as it breezed to an eight-run mercy rule win over the Blues.
Junior catcher
Alyssa Morris blasted her team-leading seventh home run of the season as she brought in McDougall in the first inning.
The second inning scoring came via RBI singles from McDougall, who had five total RBI in the two games, and junior second baseman / outfielder
Kristen Rose.
After the CU bats cooled off in the third and fourth innings, freshman catcher / first baseman
Nicole Neri hit a line drive two-run home run in the fifth inning to clinch the mercy rule win for the Mountain Lions.

Katie Snodgress recorded her third win of the season as she held BSC to four hits in three innings and lowered her team-best ERA to 0.82. McDougall pitched the final two innings in relief.
Game 2: Concord 11 – Bluefield State 3 (Six Innings)Nine runs over the first three innings propelled CU to an 11-3 in six innings.
After scoring a run in the first inning, Concord plated five runs in the second inning with sophomore shortstop / outfielder

Allie Reid and senior first baseman / pitcher
Brantlea Wood all tallying RBI singles in the outburst.
The Mountain Lions added to their lead in the third inning as McDougall hit her hit her third home run of the season. Freshman shortstop / outfielder
Jessica Burney also had an RBI single in the three-run third.
Bluefield State was able to crawl back in the game with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. However, CU scored two runs in the sixth inning as sophomore first baseman / third baseman
Courtney Purtell and McDougall each had RB.
Reid evened her record to 2-2 this season by tossing three innings, and retired 10 consecutive batters after giving up a double to start the game.

The Mountain Lions will start MEC play 2:00 p.m. at Fairmont State.
