ATHENS, W.Va. – Winners of five in a row, the Concord University softball team will open up its home schedule 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning versus Bluefield State at the CU Softball Complex.

CU is coming off a 5-0 showing at the Shaw Softball Challenge March 8-9 in which they won the five games by a combined score of 35-4.
Senior pitcher / first baseman
Lacey McDougall spearheaded the stellar pitching effort for the Mountain Lions as she tossed two complete game shutouts in 5-0 and 1-0 wins over Edinboro and Clarion.
The Chesapeake, Virginia native has pitched 14-inning scoreless streak and has only allowed one earned run in her last 22 innings of work.
Senior outfielder
Jessica Seymour and sophomore shortstop / outfielder
Alayna Furr were two of the best hitters for CU at the Shaw Softball Challenge.
Seymour elevated her batting average from .167 to .296 in the five games and had at least one RBI in four of five contests while also collecting a hit in each game.
Meanwhile, Furr carries an eight-game hitting streak into Thursday's game against the Blues.
Furr is the only Concord player that has a batting average higher than .400 (.412).
The Mountain Lions have the fourth-highest team batting average in the Mountain East Conference (.303) as seven different CU players are batting at least .300 led by Furr (.412), and she is followed by McDougall (.353), junior catcher
Alyssa Morris (.327), junior outfielder
Kristi Benvenuto (.324), sophomore first baseman / third baseman
Courtney Purtell (.321), freshman shortstop / third baseman
Alycea Watson (.316) and senior pitcher / first baseman
Brantlea Wood (.310).
Concord also has the fourth-best ERA in the MEC as freshman pitcher / outfielder
Katie Snodgress (1.00) and McDougall (1.58) both sport ERAs under two.
McDougall leads the conference in innings pitched (53) and is fourth in strikeouts (29).
A look into the Concord record books show that Morris needs two hits to move into eighth place all-time.
Meanwhile, sophomore shortstop / outfielder
Lauren Lewis' home run would break a four-way tie for eighth all-time. Seymour is included in that four-way tie.
UP NEXTConcord will begin MEC play 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Fairmont State before traveling to Shepherd 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
