WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Concord University softball went 5-0 at the Shaw Challenge Sunday and Monday.
The five wins including three on Sunday moves the Mountain Lions to 10-8 this season.
Below is a recap of Sunday's games.
Game 1: Concord 5 – St. Augustine's 1 Concord scored two runs in the third inning to break a scoreless tie and then added a run in the fourth and two more insurance runs in the fifth to lock up a four-run win.
Freshman pitcher
Katie Snodgress pitched a complete as she surrendered just one run on five hits while striking out five batters.
Senior pitcher / first baseman
Lacey McDougall recorded two RBI including a single in the third inning that plated sophomore shortstop / outfielder
Alayna Furr and sophomore first baseman / third baseman
Courtney Purtell.
Game 2: Concord 11 – Elizabeth City State 1CU only needed five innings to dispatch ECSU.
Sophomore shortstop / outfielder
Lauren Lewis tallied an inside the park home run that scored freshman utility player
Alyssa Bohnam and senior outfielder
Jessica Seymour. Furr also had two RBI in the convincing victory.
Junior pitcher
Allie Reid started the game as she went three innings. Reid struck out six batters while giving up just two hits. Sophomore pitcher / outfielder
Sarah Herndon closed the game, throwing the final two innings.
Game 3: Concord 1 – Clarion 0The final game of the day was a pitcher's duel as the Mountain Lions scored the game's only run on a single by Seymour in the fourth inning that brought senior pitcher / first baseman
Brantlea Wood home.
McDougall tossed a complete game as she surrendered just three hits. McDougall fanned five batters in her effort.
