SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team was defeated 66-52 by Shepherd Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at the Butcher Center.
CU (7-19, 7-14 MEC) fell behind Shepherd (18-8, 15-5 MEC) 35-15 at halftime.
The Mountain Lions tried to mount a comeback in the second half as Concord trimmed the deficit to 15, 46-31, with 10:29 left in the game.
However, the Rams ran their lead back to 23 points 56-33 with 6:15 remaining. CU was unable to reduce the deficit under single digits as they got as close as 12 points after a layup from freshman forward
Shacora Cooper with 43 seconds left.
Senior forward
Jacqueline Kestner led the Mountain Lions with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Junior forward
Kylie Molisee had her first double-digit rebounding game since December as she led the Mountain Lions in boards with 12, and also scored eight points.
CU finished with 18 offensive rebounds, marking the eighth time in 11 games the Maroon and Gray had 10 or more offensive boards.
The Mountain Lions owned advantages in second chance points (17-11), rebounds (48-41) and offensive rebounds (18-9).
Cara Mason and Briana Vaden each scored 13 points to lead Shepherd.
Concord will play its finial regular season home game 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against Davis & Elkins. Prior to the game senior forward
