FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team lost 70-52 to Fairmont State Thursday night at Joe Retton Arena in Mountain East Conference action.
Fairmont State (20-6, 14-6 MEC) built a 34-15 lead on CU (7-18, 7-13 MEC) over the first 15 minutes of the game, however, the Mountain Lions went on an 11-1 run to cut the deficit to 35-26 with 1:11 remaining in the first half. Senior forward
Jacqueline Kestner and sophomore guard
Olivia Morgan combined to score all 11 points with Kestner recording seven points.
FSU added a late first-half layup to lead 37-26 at halftime.
In the second half, the Fighting Falcons led by as much as 20 points in the second half as CU was unable to reduce the deficit into single digits, falling by the final 18-point margin.
Kestner led the Mountain Lions with 14 points and seven rebounds. Kestner shot 6-for-8 from the foul line which marked the seventh time this season the Blountville, Tennessee has made at least six free throws in a game.
As a team, Concord shot 15-for-18 at the charity stripe.
Senior forward
Rachel Artrip just missed out on a double-double, concluding the game with 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Mountain Lions finished the contest with 15 offensive rebounds to Fairmont State's 11. Concord also shot better from the free-throw line (83.3-66.7).
Fairmont State's Emily Lohr led all scorers with 18 points.
Concord will conclude its brief two-game road trip 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Shepherd.
