ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball roared back from 2-0 set deficit to defeat UVa.-Wise in five sets (23-25, 20-25, 25-18, 27-25, 15-10) Tuesday night at the Carter Center in Mountain East Conference play.
The win improves Concord's record to 8-22, but more importantly evens its MEC record at 6-6. The Cavaliers drop to 14-13 overall and 9-3 in the league.
The first set was tight throughout and featured 14 ties as the teams remained deadlocked at 22-22. UVa.-Wise was able to capitalize on a couple of CU errors to take first set. The Cavaliers jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the second set and won the set 25-20. The Mountain Lions were able to cut the deficit to 21-19, but couldn't quite complete the comeback in set two.
Much like the first set, the third set went back and forth before Concord used a 7-2 run with the game 16-15 in favor of Concord. Freshman middle hitter

Alexi Pranckus each had a kill during the run as UVa.-Wise committed several errors, and CU took the set 25-18.
In a closely matched fourth set, the Mountain Lions pulled the fourth game win out as Heck, sophomore middle hitter

Lindsay Lannen and Pranckus each had a kill over the final four points of a 27-25 win.
With CU and UVa.-Wise deadlocked at 5-5 in the decisive fifth set, Heck and Pranckus each tallied two kills during a 5-1 run, pushing Concord to a five-set, come-from-behind victory.
Pranckus recorded a career-high 21 kills and three service aces.
Hoffman came away with a season-high 12 kills and a personal-best nine blocks in the win.

Jayden Jacobs equaled her career-high with 32 assists while sophomore setter
Casey Mandeville matched her season-high with 29 assists.
The Mountain Lions travels to West Virginia State 7:00 p.m. Friday.
