BECKLEY, W.Va- The Concord University women's soccer team was dealt a 2-0 setback to visiting Notre Dame College on Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action.
Concord (3-4-3, 2-4-2 MEC) faced an early deficit as Notre Dame's Norah Barnes slipped behind the Concord defense from a pass by Jillian Doss. Barnes drove her shot into the left side of the net to give Notre Dame the lead just 72 seconds into the match.
Concord responded with several shots of their own, but were unable to find an equalizer throughout the match. Notre Dame added a goal in the 55
th minute to extend their lead to 2-0.
The Mountain Lions were outshot 20-9 overall, and 12-3 in shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper
Emily Simpkins had career-high 12 saves for Concord. Junior midfielder
Margot Provencher added two shots on goal.
CU next hosts West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
