ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the University of Charleston Sunday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at Anderson Field.
The Golden Eagles (9-3-4, 9-3-3 MEC) netted a goal in the 83
rd minute to narrowly defeat CU (5-7-4, 4-7-3 MEC).
Sophomore midfielder
Sarah Akers had a couple of early chances for the Mountain Lions as she had a free kick tipped away by UC goalkeeper Zoe Zyta in the seventh minute of the game and then had another free kick hit the crossbar in the 19
th minute.
Most of the game was played in the midfield as the teams only combined for eight shots on goal. Junior forward
Emily Cole recorded two shots on goal for the Mountain Lions while Akers had the other.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kaylee Taylor made two saves for Concord in the loss.
Sunday marked the final home game for the careers of seniors
Chloe Barber,
Kari Simon and
Chloe Barber.
CU takes on Notre Dame 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in South Euclid, Ohio.
