Concord Gets Past Notre Dame in Four Sets

ATHENS, W.V.a – Freshman outside hitter Alexi Pranckus and sophomore outside hitter Lisette Roldan led the Concord University volleyball team to a four-set win over Notre Dame Friday night at the Carter Center in Mountain East Conference action.

CU moves to 6-18 this season and 4-3 in the MEC while Notre Dame falls 2-15 overall and 1-6 in the MEC.

The four sets were decided by a total of 11 points with the first and third set going past 25 points to win.

The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 20-10 lead on the Falcons in the first set, but

NDC clawed back to take a 24-23 lead, however, back-to-back kills by sophomore middle hitter Shea Hoffman bolted CU back into the lead. An NDC attack error ended the first set.

Concord fell behind 18-15 in the third set, but ripped off seven straight points to take control of the second set and won 25-22. Sophomore setter Jayden Jacobs notched three service aces during the run while freshman middle hitter Brooke Heck and Pranckus added a kill as well.

NDC controlled the third set until CU knotted the set at 23, however, the Mountain Lions couldn't overtake Notre Dame as the Falcons won the third game 27-25.

With the fourth set hanging in the balance at 18-18, Concord's serving answered the challenge with three aces including two from Heck. Pranckus clinched the match with a kill to win the fourth set 25-21.

Pranckus tallied her second double-double in as any matches with 19 kills and 16 digs. Meanwhile, Roldan recorded a career-high 16 kills and 18 digs while hitting a season-high .239.

Jacobs had 30 or more assists for the second time in her career with 32 versus NDC while sophomore setter Casey Mandeville added 28 assists.

CU takes on Urbana 1:00 p.m. Saturday at home.
