ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team ran its win streak to three with a four set victory (25-17, 25-23, 25-27, 25-21) over Davis & Elkins in non-conference action Tuesday night at the Carter Center.
The Mountain Lions turned (5-18, 3-3 MEC) a slim 15-14 lead in the first set into a convincing 25-17 win as freshman outside hitter
Alexi Pranckus recorded three of her 17 kills during the run and freshman libero
Erin Shannon added three straight service aces to help CU to a first set win.
Davis & Elkins (3-13) fought out a 17-11 deficit to knot the second set at 23-23, but freshman setter
Jayden Jacobs caught the Senators off guard with a kill and sophomore outside hitter
Lisette Roldan ended the set with a kill.
However, the Senators didn't allow CU to sweep them as they won a hard-fought third set 27-25.
After back-and-forth play in the fourth set that featured nine ties, Concord took control of the set by scoring five of the match's final six points to take the match 3-1.
Pranckus led the Mountain Lions with her fifth double-double of the season as he notched career-highs in both kills (17) and digs (21).
Reigning Mountain East Conference Player of the Week freshman middle hitter
Brooke Heck notched 15 kills and a .619 hitting percentage. Tuesday marked the third time in the last four matches that Heck has hit .400 or better in a match.
Jacobs and sophomore setter
Casey Mandeville recorded 24 and 22 assists, respectively, which was the third time this season that both setters for the Mountain Lions have had 20 or more assists in the same match.
