ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team was defeated by Shepherd, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at Anderson Field.
Concord (3-6-4, 2-6-3 MEC) allowed four goals in the second half to SU (6-5-2, 5-4-2 MEC) which was too much for the Mountain Lions to overcome.
In the first half, sophomore midfielder
Sarah Akers fired home her second goal of the season as she received a pass from junior midfielder
Margot Provencher in the center of the field and found the net from just outside the 18-yard penalty box.
CU held the 1-0 lead at halftime, and until the 50
th minute when Shepherd tied the game. The first goal for the Rams started a stretch of three goals in seven minutes and four goals in 16 minutes.
Freshman forward
Pilar Elias also had a shot on goal for Concord. Freshman goalkeeper
Emily Simpkins made three saves in the game.
The Mountain Lions welcome Wheeling Jesuit to Anderson Field 2:00 p.m. Thursday.
