Concord Drops Contest to Glenville State

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team fell to Glenville State 92-67 Saturday afternoon at the Carter Center in Mountain East Conference action.

Concord (5-12, 5-7 MEC) and GSC (8-8, 6-6 MEC) battled throughout the early stages of the game with the game being tied 8-8 with 16:46 showing on the first half clock. But, the Pioneers were able to outscore CU 13-4 over the next five minutes of the contest to grab a 21-12 advantage with 11:09 remaining in the half.

However, Concord punched back by scoring five of the next seven points with sophomore center Alley Odell and senior guard Melea Smith each connecting on two foul shots.

Glenville State would end the first half on a 23-10 run to take a 44-27 advantage to the locker room at halftime.

The Pioneers pushed their lead to 20 points or more in the second half as they went on to win by the 25-point margin.

Senior guard Rachel Artrip led all Concord scorers with 18 points as she moved into seventh all-time on the career made three-pointer list with 110.

Senior forward Jacqueline Kestner notched her eighth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Six of Kestner's rebounds came on the offensive glass, matching a season high.

Concord tied its season high in made free-throws (22) as Kestner converted on a team-high seven. CU also had its highest shooting percentage from the foul line with at least 10 makes (.786 / 22-for-28) since the West Liberty game (.826 / 19-for-23).

GSC's Katrina Salins led all scorers with 21 points including a 6-for-8 effort from three-point range.

Concord will welcome in West Virginia Wesleyan 5:30 p.m. Thursday night.
