Concord Starts Two-Game Road Trip at West Virginia State Before Heading to Bluefield State

ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University women's basketball team will play its final two road games of January at West Virginia State 2:00 p.m. Saturday and at Bluefield State 5:30 p.m. Monday.

RECORDS
Concord is 3-10 overall and 3-6 in league play.

West Virginia State is 5-8 overall and just ahead of Concord in the league standings at 3-5.

Bluefield State is 11-5 this season and have won its last two games.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Last time out, Concord narrowly lost to Shepherd 64-59 as junior forward Jacqueline Kestner registered her seventh double-double of the season as she scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds. Her seven double-doubles are tied for 29th nationally.

• This season, Kestner is second in the MEC with 9.8 rebound per game (rpg) and 11th in scoring 13.8 points per game (ppg).

• Kestner also moved into 10th all-time in the career list at Concord with 523. The Blountville, Tennessee native needs 13 rebounds to pass Andrea Bertrand for ninth all-time.

• Kestner has faired well on the offensive glass, ranking fourth wtih 3.2 offensive rebounds per contest.

• Sophomore center Alley Odell continued her recent string of strong play as she tallied a career-high 17 points against the Rams on 6-for-11 shooting.

• Over her last two contests, the Richmond, Virginia native is averaging 13.5 ppg and is shooting 52.3 percent from the field.

• Additionally, Odell has made nine straight free throw attempts and is shooting 84.3 percent from the charity stripe this season.

• Senior forward Rachel Artrip recorded her 100 career made three-pointer against Shepherd, becoming just the ninth CU player to achieve the milestone.

• Artrip has made at least one three-pointer in six straight games and has connected on one or more shots behind the arc in 10 of Concord's 13 contests this year.

• The Mountain Lions have put the clamps on its opponents this season as they are fourth in the MEC in field goal defense, allowing opponents to only shoot 38.3 percent from the floor.

• In fact only two three have shot better than 40 percent against CU this season.  

• West Virginia State is led by their frontcourt duo of Alexus Hobbs and Shealyn Shafer, who combine to average 22.5 points and 14.7 rebounds per game.

• With Hobbs and Shafer patrolling the paint, the Yellow Jackets led the MEC in blocks with 5.6 per contest.

• Bluefield State has won its last four games over Division II opponents with a loss to Division I Cleveland State sandwiched between two consecutive wins.

• The Blues' leading scorer is Shakima Wiggins who is averaging 16.6 point per game.

A CONCORD WIN WOULD...
• A Concord win would end the CU's losing streak.

• A Concord win over West Virginia State would be the second for the Mountain Lions in their last three meetings.

• A Concord win over Bluefield State would avenge a road loss to BSC last season.,

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
