LOGAN, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball dropped a Mountain East Conference contest to Fairmont State, 74-55, Saturday afternoon at Willie Akers Arena.
The Mountain Lions (3-9, 3-5 MEC) were led by senior forward
Rachel Artrip who had 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting to go along with six rebounds. It was the third time in four games Artrip has registered in double figures.
After the teams swapped buckets over the first five minutes of the game, Fairmont State (12-2, 6-2 MEC) went on a 10-0 run to go up 21-10 with 13:00 showing on the first half clock.
However, CU answered with a 6-0 of its own as Artrip scored five points during the run.
The Falcons scored 33 points over the final 10 minutes of the first to take a 53-31 lead into halftime.
FSU opened the second half on a 9-2 run to pull away for a 74-55 win.
Sophomore center
Alley Odell tallied a career-high 10 points as she connected on her first three shots of the game. Senior guard
Melea Smith had 11 points.
The Mountain Lions edged Fairmont State in points in the paint (32-24), points off turnovers (16-12) and fast break points (8-6).
FSU was led by Emily Lohr who scored a game-high 22 points by connecting on 5-of-6 three-pointers.
Concord will return home to face Shepherd 5:30 p.m. Monday night at the Carter Center.
