Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – It was a day of firsts as the Concord University women's soccer defeated West Virginia Institute of Technology, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Anderson Field.

Head coach Amanda Malkiewicz picked her first career win as head coach at Concord.

The four goals scored by Concord were the most since they posted five goals against Chowan during the 2011 season.

Senior midfielder Sami Spertzel gave the Mountain Lions an early edge by connecting on a penalty kick in the 15th minute of the game. The goal was Spertzel's first as a member of the Mountain Lions. CU continued to put pressure on the WVU Tech defense as freshman forward Kalyn Fauntleroy and junior forward Kari Simon accounted for shots on goal each in the first half, but CU was able to add to its lead in the first half.

After halftime, Concord capitalized on its scoring chances when junior midfielder Samantha Wood scored on a crossing ball from Simon in the 53rd minute to lead to Concord's second goal on the afternoon. The strike by Wood was her first career collegiate goal. Just four minutes later, Simon booted a corner kick into the box where it deflected off of Wood and onto the foot of sophomore back Olivia Reilly, who recorded her first Mountain Lion goal.

Sophomore midfielder Margot Provencher concluded the CU scoring attack with a blast of her own from the top of the 18-yard box that got over the outreached arms of WVU Tech goalkeeper Martha Reyna. Like her teammates, the goal was Provencher's first at Concord.

Throughout the match, the Concord defense was stellar as sophomore goalkeeper Lacie Geisel (1-1-0) tallied her first career shutout in turning away four shots.

For the game, the Mountain Lions had more total shots (24-7), shots on goal (15-4) and corner kicks (5-2) than WVU Tech.

Concord will conclude its early season three-game homestand when they welcome Salem International to Anderson 4 p.m. Wednesday.
