Amanda Malkiewicz was officially named the fourth women’s soccer head coach in Concord University history on May 8, 2014.
"Amanda brings a wealth of soccer knowledge to the program." Director of Athletics Kevin Garrett said. "After serving as an assistant for the last two years I feel that the transition to head coach will be a smooth one for such a talented young coach. I look forward to watching her elevate the program to the next level."
Malkiewicz starts her third season as CU's head coach in 2016-17. During her first two seasons, Malkiewicz coached two-time all-region selection, Kari Simon. Additionally, Simon and Stacey Calder earned first team All-MEC under Malkiewicz's guidance in 2014.
Freshman Pilar Elias was named Second Team All-MEC as well as to the All-MEC Freshman Team under Malkiewicz's watch.
Malkiewicz's philosophy of a high-scoring attack yielded positive results as the Mountain Lions scored 28 goals in 2014, which was up from 19 and 22 goals the previous two seasons. In 2015, Concord scored 21 goals, but the 49 goals CU put in the back of the net in her first two seasons was the highest goal rate over a two-year span since 2009 and 2010.
Concord's defense was more than superb in 2015 as well as it held opponents to one goal or less in 11 games including holding nationally-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan scoreless in a 0-0 tie.
Malkiewicz spent two years as an assistant on former Concord head coach Stefani Workman's staff. As an assistant, Malkiewicz helped lead the Mountain Lions to a 16-16-4 record and a spot in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals in 2012.
Under her tutelage, Concord scored 41 goals combined in 2012 and 2013 after having only scored 10 times the year prior to Malkiewicz’s arrival as CU’s lead assistant.
She holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) "B" License and has also served as the Associate Coach in Training (ACT) for the United States Region I Olympic Development Program since July 2013.
Prior to Malkiewicz's arrival at Concord, she excelled on the field as player at East Carolina University from 2008-11. As a Pirate, Malkiewicz was a three-time All-Conference USA athlete who appeared in 80 games and totaled 69 career points off of 25 goals and 19 assists. Upon graduation, Malkiewicz ranked second all-time at ECU in assists, third in goals and fourth in points.
The Forked River, New Jersey native earned her bachelor's degree from East Carolina in secondary math education with a grade point average of 3.8 and received her master's degree in Health and Human Performance from Concord University in 2014.
Malkiewicz brings prior coaching experience with her in addition to her service at Concord as well. Since 2009, she has assisted at the East Carolina University Soccer Camp and had previously assisted at J.H. Rose High School in Greenville, N.C.
"I am unbelievably honored and excited to be the next head coach at CU after serving as an assistant for the past two years," Malkiewicz said. "I would like to personally thank our Director of Athletics
Kevin Garrett for trusting me with this tremendous opportunity. I am beyond grateful for the support from the entire Concord community and look forward to contnuing the winning tradition here at CU.
