Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Concord University softball team was bested in a pair of games by Notre Dame College Monday in Mountain East Conference competition 3-1 and 8-0.

The Mountain Lions end their six-game road trip with an overall record of 19-13 and a MEC mark of 3-7. The Falcons improved to 12-15 overall and 5-3 in league play with the doubleheader sweep.

Sophomore second baseman Kristen Rose and freshman outfielder Lauren Lewis paced CU Monday. Rose finished the day 2-for-6 with one double and one home run, her fourth of the season. Lewis was 2-for-5 with a double as well as her eighth stolen base of 2014.

Notre Dame scored three runs in the first two innings of play in game one and managed to hold off several Concord comeback bids to take the opener over the Mountain Lions, 3-1.

Trailing 3-0 entering the third inning, Rose cut CU's deficit to two runs when she sent a one-out pitch over the centerfield wall for the leadoff hitter's second home run in the last five games.

The Mountain Lions threatened to cut into the Falcons' lead further by putting a runner in scoring position on three separate occasions: in the fourth inning off of a double by Lewis, in the sixth on a single and stolen base from junior first baseman Brantlea Wood and in the seventh via sophomore pitcher Allie Reid's leadoff double, but NDC pitcher Mackenzie Wallace managed to escape all three situations to hold onto the two-run victory.

Rose led all hitters in the opener, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. Lewis tallied the games only other multi-hit performance with a 2-for-3 showing.

Wood, Reid and freshman designated player Alayna Furr were responsible for Concord's other three hits. Wood and Furr also stole bases in addition to their hits.

Reid (10-5) took the loss in the circle despite a solid performance that saw her give up just five hits and strike out two batters in six innings pitched. All three runs allowed by Reid were unearned.

The Mountain Lions offense could not find its stride in game two as Falcon pitcher Ashley Hall held Concord hitless while the Notre Dame offense produced eight runs for an 8-0 five-inning victory.

Concord put runners on base in the third inning when junior outfielder Jessica Seymour was hit by a pitch and in the fifth when sophomore catcher Alyssa Morris drew a walk, but neither base runner would translate to runs.

Freshman pitcher Sarah Herndon (2-7) was the pitcher of record for Concord after allowing eight runs, six earned, on 10 hits and four walks while striking out three Notre Dame batters.

Concord looks to return to its winning ways with back-to-back home doubleheaders at the CU Softball Field April 5-6 against the University of Charleston and West Virginia State. First pitch against Charleston is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
