Concord Rolls By Glenville State in Three Sets on Senior Night

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball secured its 17th win of the season by sweeping Glenville State (25-9, 25-11, 25-8) in three sets Friday night at the Carter Center.

Concord moves to 17-13 overall and 6-9 in the Mountain East Conference while Glenville State is 1-28 overall and 0-15 in the league.

Prior to the game, coaches Kate Southcott and Alyssa Hanley and the Mountain Lion program celebrated the careers of junior defensive specialist Megan Fisher, senior middle hitter Sarah Jones, senior setter Nikki McMillan, senior libero Amanda Walker, senior outside hitter Brytni Willis and senior setter Whytni Willis. All six will conclude their playing careers after the season.

In set one, GSC jumped out to a 6-5 lead before Concord ended the set on a 20-3 run. During the opening set, Jones and B. Willis each recorded four kills.

CU never trailed during the second set and broke open a close 7-5 margin by scoring 18 of the last 24 points of the set. Jones added four more kills in the game.

The Mountain Lions made quick work of the Pioneers in the third set by racing out to an 18-3 lead to win 25-8.

With the win, Concord surpassed last year's win total of 16 and has now won the most matches in a season since 2002.

Jones finished with a game-high 14 kills while hitting a season high .556. B. Willis recorded her team-leading ninth double-double by tallying 13 kills and 10 digs. McMillan notched her eighth consecutive double-digit assist game by recording 20 assists.

W. Willis had eight assists and season-high nine digs while coming away with five kills.

Concord will conclude the regular season Saturday versus West Virginia Wesleyan. CU will go into Saturday tied for the eighth and final playoff spot with UVa.-Wise. The Cavaliers will square off with Glenville State.

Wins by both teams would springboard the Mountain Lions into the postseason while a UVa.-Wise win and a CU loss would put the Cavaliers in the playoffs. A loss by UVa.-Wise would also send Concord into the postseason.

Start time between Concord and WVWC is 4:00 p.m. from the Carter Center.
