SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Concord University women's basketball team was defeated Saturday afternoon 78-61 by Notre Dame at Murphy Gymnasium.
The game was both teams' Mountain East Conference opener. Concord falls to 0-3 and 0-1 in MEC play while Notre Dame moves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in league action.
Senior forward
Rachel Artrip scored a game-high 22 points on 7-for-14 from the floor including shooting 4-for-8 from three-point range. Senior guard
Melea Smith and senior forward
Jacqueline Kestner scored 12 and 10 points respectively.
Kestner scored her third straight double-double with 10 rebounds to go along with her 10 points.
Over the first eight minutes of the game, neither team led by more than six points. With Notre Dame leading lead 15-11 with 11:46 remaining in the first half, the Falcons were able to outscore Concord 18-7 over the next five minutes to stretch their lead out to 33-18.
Concord finished the first half on a 12-4 run to reduce the deficit to 37-30. Artrip, Kestner and freshman guard
Marta Moix combined for 10 of the 12 points with Artrip scoring five.
NDC opened the second half on a 15-2 run as they rolled to a 17-point win.
Other notable performers were junior forward
Kylie Molisee who scored six points and pulled down 10 rebounds and sophomore guard
Olivia Morgan who had seven points, three rebounds and three points.
The Mountain Lions will travel to Urbana 5:30 p.m. Monday night.
