Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team completed its second straight sweep by downing UVa.-Wise in three sets (26-24, 26-24, 27-25) Tuesday night at the Carter Center in Mountain East Conference action.
The win moves CU's record to 15-12 overall and 4-8 in the league while UVa.-Wise falls to 12-12 overall and 5-7 in the MEC.
Tuesday night marked the first time the Mountain Lions have had to go past the necessary 25 points to win all three sets.
During the course of the first set, CU and the Cavaliers traded the lead twice and were tied eight times. Trailing 23-20, Concord scored six of the next seven points to overpower UVa.-Wise and take the first set 26-24. During the run, senior outside hitter
Brytni Willis contributed two kills and freshman middle hitter
Alexis Elliott also chipped in a kill. Senior middle hitter
Sarah Jones also had a service ace.
Set two was even closer than set one as the teams combined for eight lead changes and 12 ties. Once again, CU found itself trailing late in the game, 22-20. Three straight attack errors by the Cavaliers and a kill from Jones put the Mountain Lions in front 24-22. Jones added another kill and UVa.-Wise committed another error as Concord took the game 26-24.
CU pulled ahead 16-11 in the third set before the Cavaliers used a rally to pull even with Concord, 25-25. Elliott and Willis each notched a kill to assure the Mountain Lions would not need a fourth set to finish off UVa.-Wise as they won 27-25.
For the game, Jones tallied a team-high 17 kills to go along with a .385 hitting percentage. Jones has hit at least .350 in six of her last seven contest. The Woodbridge, Virginia native also added seven digs and three blocks.
Willis notched her seventh double-double of the season by pounding out 14 kills and 13 digs.

Nikki McMillan finished her night with 22 assists and has now tallied at least 15 assists in nine of her last 12 matches. Senior libero
Amanda Walker recorded a team-high 16 digs.
Even though she only finished with three kills, Elliott was instrumental in the Concord win as two of her kills helped seal victories in the first and third games.
The Mountain Lions will return to action Friday night at West Virginia for a 7:00 p.m. start.
