Concord Defeats Urbana in Overtime, 2-1

Box Score URBANA, Ohio – The fortunes were reversed for the Concord University men's soccer team as it picked up a 2-1 overtime victory Tuesday afternoon over Urbana at Urbana University Stadium in a Mountain East Conference game.

Concord (2-11-1, 2-8 MEC) had previously lost four overtime contests this season, including its last game against Wheeling Jesuit, before winning over Urbana (4-10, 3-7 MEC). Freshman midfielder Maximillian Simpson gave Concord an early lead off of a free kick in the 18th minute. The goal was Simpson's first of the season.

The Mountain Lions would hold onto the lead until the 78th when the Blue Knights converted a penalty kick to knot the contest at 1-1.

Nearing the end of the first 10-minute overtime segment, Simpson played a corner kick into the box where junior midfielder Joe Sweet headed the ball to the head of senior defender Cameron Russell as Russell's shot found the back of the net for the game-winning goal. The goal was Russell's first of the season and third of his career.

Junior goalkeeper Mitchell Thompson made a season-high 10 saves including one in overtime to set up Russell's game-winning shot.

For the game, Urbana dominated total shots (31-4), shots on goal (11-2) while holding a smaller edge in corner kicks (6-2).
